Happy Birthday Marcel!
(as messy as these cupcakes look they took all evening to make! Dipping marshmallows in chocolate, making green slime pudding filling, frosting-- whooo-ooo.

Sunday we will complete the transformation of Marcel's room- what once was a dull, boring room with tan walls and mismatched furniture will now be...a very bright room with matching furniture.
The furniture in Marcel's room was made by my father years ago. I mean years- the bookshelf was made for my mother when they were still in college, and the nightstand (pictured) was in my room when I was a child. I have been meaning to fix them up for years, and finally, I did it this weekend. Marcel wanted orange, his favorite color, so he got orange. In addition, he will have an orange desk as well- also something my father made (and I painted) as well.
We will be moving everything back into the room today and Marcel will finally be able to sleep in his own, new, room.
Next up I have plans to repaint a bookshelf for our bedroom, from black to "Sienna Clay".
Sushi Cake:
Cake mix and ingredients to make cake
Frosting (I got 3 tubs and one of the pre-filled tubes of white)
Food coloring- 4 basic colors
Green sprinkles
Frosting knife
Green grass from Sushi counter/restaurant
Cantaloupe jelly bellys (I got them from bulk candy section)
A small round bowl to press circle onto cake
Decorator tips (star, tube, and petal) and decorator bags
First I missed up the frosting and put it in the fridge to soften. I used store-bought frosting this time- the classic white kind.
Sides and “cucumber”- White frosting with green only
Wasabi/ Avocado- White frosting with Yellow and green (started with yellow first then added the green)
Ginger/Crabmeat- White frosting with red and yellow (jut a little bit of yellow)
Bake the cakes, cool, and stick together. Frost top with white. Let set.
Frost sides with green. Immediately sprinkle green sprinkles on the sides. Take a round smaller bowl or a Tupperware container and press a circle in the middle. Take a chopstick or something like that to draw the circle into 3.
First, I made the rice with white frosting and a small tube tip. I just squished it out like rice everywhere but the circle in the middle- it took a while- but was easier than I thought. You could use coconut as well to save time, if they like coconut.
I piped the avocado (light green) on one third, and spread with a knife. For "crab" I made the top third pink, and the bottom white. I piped them on and spread them as well. I did the "cucumber" (darker green) the same way, the darker green on the top and the bottom white. I put cantaloupe jelly bellys in the middle to make the salmon eggs.
I piped wasabi around the bottom (large star tip) then put the plastic sushi grass on the side. I piped the “ginger” in one of the tips that you use for flower petals. I added one of those grass things and wasabi on the side and added chopsticks.
