Piñata Destruction!
Today we went to Arthouse to take part in the destruction of a piece of art- the Stealth Fighter Piñata by Houston artist Bill Davenport. The bashing commemorated the last day of the Arthouse Texas Prize exhibit, in which the piece was a finalist. Folks got tickets upon entry into he gallery- the ticket to whack the piñata with one of the various instruments available- a mop, an oar, a "Happy Valentines Day" sign, a golf club, a rake...Zack was called to take swing a the already crippled piñata, but I didn't get a chance since it was demolished before my ticket was called.
What was in the piñata you ask? Tons of giant red glitter, Hershey's kisses and money- mostly dimes but a few pennies and quarters here and there. But there was a ton, probably $200 worth I would guess. There were kids and adults scrambling for the candy and money- Marcel had some folks gathering for him too (it pays to be a kid, literally) and he ended up with $25! The money had to go toward something artsy or creative to keep with the spirit of the event. We went over to Toys R Us and got a gooey bug making kit.
It was a great day...!
