Yo Mom, thanks for the sticky letters!

Yeah, I know they were a gift for Marcel, but we all have been having fun sticking them onto things...the dog, ourselves...Someone, I won't mention who, even stuck the word POOP onto the toilet seat. Marcel, the 5 year old, didn't think it was funny and pulled the letters down. Man, how do you get a laugh around here?

P.F.

We were supposed to go to Sea World this weekend but we canceled that because of the impending storm.  Instead we decided to grab some lunch at P.F. Chang's and see a movie.

During lunch Zack asked me if I knew with the P.F. stood for.  I did not know.  We went about our day and saw Corpse Bride at the theater.

A few minutes ago Zack hollered upstairs to me- "I know that the P.F.  stands for!"

"What?"

"Pungent Farts"

If you are wondering- no, he was not referring to me.

Cold Blooded Old Times

So, as you know, I found the family photos yesterday and went through every last one, trying to find my favorites.  When I was young, my Dad took a ton of photos of me and my brother that he developed downstairs in his darkroom.  So, my parents have all of these fantastic 8x10 photos of us that I love to pull out every time I come home.

Scan0006Scan0005_1Yesterday, I pulled out an album to show Zack, one in which I was about 2 1/2 years old and Philip was just a baby. We were looking through the photos, and Zack was following along quietly as I showed him photos of me smelling flowers, laying in the grass, chasing dandelion fuzz... You know, the kind of photos that parents take of their child to make them look like the sweetest most angelic human on earth. We flip through a few more photos of me playing in the sandbox, looking sweet and innocent, and then came to a photo that made Zack break his photo-viewing silence.  He yelled out, "Now there's the Jenny that I know!" when he saw a photo of Philip and I with our Halloween pumpkins.  Here is the photo of which he spoke:Scan0007_3

Yup, not the photo of me standing in the wind in front of the newly planted pear tree, looking all nature-y. Nor was it the one in which I was checking out my Halloween candy (C'mon, I love Candy, surely that looks like something the modern-day me would do). No, it was the photo in which I am sticking my tongue out at my poor 6 month old brother; the child was barely old enough to sit up, and I am sticking out my tongue at him like "Ha Ha, I get to go out and Trick or Treat, and you have to stay in because you are a BABY, nanny nanny boo boo".

Oh man.

I found the family photo box!

This one is for Once More - This is from my 4th grade jazz recital, we dance to the Neil Diamond song "America" :

Presto_2

On the boats and on the planes
They're coming to America
Never looking back again
They're coming to America...

Sorry- I was feelin' it for a bit there looking at that photo.

Oh, and I can't leave out the Log Flume photo, as if my hair wasn't looking bad enough before the log splashed water all over it.

Logflume

Yes, that is one bad perm.

Silly Bits

I've been thinking about phobias lately- some of you may know I have a phobia of crossing busy streets.  I know the majority of people don't love doing so, but I get serious anxiety and start to imagine all of the different ways I could get hit by a car, bicyclist, skateboarder, armadillo... I remembered a website that listed all of the different types of phobias, so I thought I would go ahead and post it.

Do you have any of these phobias?

Also, a friend sent me this link today and it cracked me up!

Fun with cardboard boxes - Part 2

I may have mentioned this before, but I won a pair of trail shoes at the trail race I did in San Antonio. The couple that I did the race with were nice enough to pick up the door prize gift certificate for me because Zack and I headed back to Austin right after the race. Because the race was in San Antonio, of course the door prize needed to be redeemed there. I was able to get the store to send me the shoes instead of having to drive there; making a trip to San Antonio was just not going to work out in the next month or so. So, they were wonderful and sent me the shoes -  I received them only a few days after I called.

The shoebox came inside of another bigger box. As we were watching the playoff game on Tuesday, I realized that the bigger box was the perfect size to fit on my head. I drew a face on it, put it on my head, and got (or tried to get) a few laughs out of Zack. Well, yesterday I decided that I wanted to make the box look a bit more snazzy, so I got out the glue and sparkly construction paper and made it into a "mask". I'm not sure if it really can be considered a mask though, it has no eye-holes so it can not be worn for long without getting injured.

We each took a turn with the mask, pulled out our best dance moves, and took some photos (of course)...

A cardboard box, some glue, and construction paper = about an hour of amusement for this family. Zack_head2Jen_head2_1Zack_head

Only thing is, that mask thing I made kinda gives me the creeps. Not sure what it reminds me of,  but I am pretty sure that mask was in my bad dream last night.

Key Lime Guy

This evening I am trying out a recipe for Key Lime Pie.  I don't know why, but Key Lime Pie really sounded like it would go well with the Burgers we are grilling up tomorrow.  I have had some really great slices Key Lime Pie, and some really crappy ones. Surprisingly the ones I haven't liked I had in the Keys, but I loved the ones that I had in Austin! This recipe was rated highly, so I hope that it is a good one.

I hand-squeezed the lime juice and it took me about half a bag of key limes (and about a half an hour) to get just 1/2 cup of juice.  They are to little to fit on the little juicer thing, so I had to squeeze them with my fingers. It was some serious work, they kept popping out of my hand, and the lime juice was stinging my hangnails! Hopefully it will be worth it. It is cooling in the fridge now and I am exercising some serious restraint to not cut a chunk out of it.

Key_llimr_1After squeezing all of those darn limes I went to throw out the mesh bag lime bag, but realized that it would make a great hat for Zack instead. Doesn't he looke thrilled that I ambushed him with a scratchy mesh bag, shoved it on his head, and then snapped a photo! I actually took this photo about 30 minutes ago and he still has the key lime bag on his head. So he must have decided that my creation is totally stylin'.

The car is officially clean

Yes! I am happy to report that my car is finally cleaned! I went to the car-wash place before work and vacuumed it out.  It is clean and organized.

Actually, I guess I should note that I really had no choice but to bring the car to the car-wash place considering there was an entire bag of microwave popcorn scattered throughout the car. And um... it was intentionally there, on the floor and on the seats, because Marcel and I got in a popcorn fight in the car on the way home from school yesterday. I had actually brought it for a snack but tossed a few kernels back to him, joking around.  It was such a liberating feeling throwing popcorn in the car! So I grabbed a few handfuls more, and next thing you know the floor, dashboard, seats, and my hair is covered in Smartpop... and one old french-fry that Marcel had found under his booster seat and threw into the mix.  We got a few strange looks in the parking lot of the grocery store, I guess they couldn't figure out what we were throwing.

Marcel and I vowed to clean it up together, but he got out of it because I had a headache by the time we were done with grocery shopping and didn't want to pull the vacuum out. When I got into the car this morning it smelled like a musty old movie theater.

If you have a long day at work one day and really just need to laugh really hard, get into a popcorn fight in the car or improvise and throw a bunch of paper balls.*

*Disclaimer- Please drive safely while tossing popcorn.

LaToya

Yesterday I bought these headband thingies at Walgreen's in an attempt to tame my hair for a change.  Instead of using them to pull my hair back, (as they were intended) I have been enjoying wearing them 80's style around the house.  Zack dared me to take a photo of my stylin' hair, then as you can see,  jumped into the photo. Looks like he's diggin' it, huh?

My husband the ham

HamZack is the King of Ham this week. Remember when I wrote that when Zack was trying to win my heart (pre-dating) he stole my keys and broke into my car to hang on  my rear view mirror a urinal cake (decorated with a picture of Vanilla Ice) on my rear-view mirror? Well, he is still at it, 8 years later....

Monday evening at dinner, Zack mentions that he saw a great new movie on the New Release page at Netflix that he was sure I would dig, given my love for Latin American cinema. I thanked him, and told him I would check it out. Later, I checked my queue (we have separate ones) and at the top was "Chupacabra Terror" about some Chupacabra on a feeding frenzy. Oh yeah, that looks like a great one. Ha Ha.

Yesterday, I missed his phone call as I was driving home from work.  I called my call notes to find a message (if you can call it that) consisting only of Zack holding the phone up to his car stereo for like 2 minutes.  No message whatsoever, just a Curtis Mayfied song.  This follows the car stereo message that he left last week; 2 minutes of "Snoop Doggy Dooo-oooog, ba da ba ba da, ooh ooh ooh ooh yeah, ahh".  And once again, no message.  I'm not sure why I listen to the whole song, then actually expect there to be a message. I should know better by now...

And, today I told Marcel that Zack was my soul mate and Marcel asked, "What's a soul mate Daddy?".  Zack responded by telling Marcel that a soul mate was "a kind of ham".

That's Zack,  my Honey-Baked Soul mate.

Stylin'

My totally stylin' Stylin_1 feet this evening:

Running socks and size 10 purple flip flops (my feet are size 8).

Zack says that with this footwear , I need to have the Barney Miller theme song playing in the background. He's lucky I'm not wearing his flip flops.

We bought a piece of bright green poster board today for a top secret project.  Marcel, hamming it up as he always does, decided to use it as a blanket.

My husband...

This is what happens when you try to take a nice birthday photo with Zack:

Bug eyes, bored eyes, or sleeping eyes. Oh, and this is just a few, there are like 15 more faces that I didn't post.

I can get away with posting these only because it is my birthday! Haha!
